Leflunomide is a DMARD (disease-modifying antirheumatic drug). It is used with other drugs or alone to help with rheumatoid arthritis (pain, swelling and loss of functioning in the joints). The drug functions by reducing the swelling and stops the progress of the disease. It decreases the joint damage in the body and increases the physical functioning.
The common side effects of using this drug are nausea, tingling sensation of extremity, numbness of extremity, pale red skin, itchy rashes, diarrhea, dizziness, dry skin, hair loss, headache, loss of appetite, weakness, weight loss, bloody or cloudy urine, cough, difficult or painful breathing, painful urination, fever, frequent urge to urinate, sore throat, heartburn, muscle pain or weakness, hair loss and cramps.
Leflunomide administration is contraindicated in conditions such as pregnancy and women who have childbearing potential (unless contraception used); liver disease, such as hepatitis B/C seropositive; hypersensitivity to leflunomide; and active serious infections.
