Desloratadine belongs to the group of medicines known as antihistamines. It works by blocking the production and release of histamine, a substance that is responsible for causing allergic symptoms. The common side effects of consuming Desloratadine are: dizziness, dry mouth, painful menstruation, fatigue, headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, muscle pain, sore throat, upset stomach, jaundice, symptoms of flu, uneven heartbeat, fever and seizures (convulsions).
Desloratadine administration is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to this drug; the hypersensitivity reactions include rash, pruritus, urticaria, edema, dyspnea, and anaphylaxis. Upon occurrence of such reactions, the drug use should immediately be stopped and alternate treatment should be prescribed by the doctor.
